The Notre Dame Titans doubled up on the Eastern Eagles Wednesday evening, as they took game one of two against their SOC I rival. The Titans finished the night with a 4-2 win over the Eagles.
CJ Corns nearly went the distance for the Titans, pitching six and two-thirds innings. He allowed two runs, both earned, and four hits, along with six walks. Corns also showed punch-out power by striking out eight Eastern batters.
Hayden Baker closed the game for Notre Dame, capturing the final two outs of the game.
Drew Cassidy showed some clutch batting Wednesday evening, going 1-3 from the plate and driving in two runs. Cassidy also scored one run in the endeavor.
Tyler Speas and Brandon Lansing also had an RBI against the Eagles. Speas drew a walk and went 1-2 at the plate.
Notre Dame broke the stalemate in the bottom of the third inning, when they scored three runs.
Eastern then cut Notre Dame’s lead to a single run, as the Eagles scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning.
After seeing their three-run lead quickly diminish to one run, Notre Dame was able to drive in another run in the fifth inning, to increase their lead to two runs, 4-2.
Notre Dame and Eastern will meet again Friday evening in Beaver, Ohio. First pitch is set for 5:00 p.m.
