The Waverly Lady Tigers held off the Clay Lady Panthers Monday night in Waverly to pick up an SOC victory, 53-47.
The game was close from start to finish, as the Lady Tigers held on to win.
John Bonifield’s Waverly squad had two players finish in double figures against Clay, Laken Smith, and Brittany Green. Smith led the Lady Tigers with 16 points, while Green ended the night with 10 points.
Green ended the night with double-double honors, as she pulled down 13 rebounds for Waverly.
Kilee Perdue fell one point shy of reaching double figures, as she added 9 points in Waverly’s win over Clay. She also went five for seven from the free throw line.
The Lady Panthers also had a duo in double figures, Jensen Warnock and Skylar Artis.
Warnock led Clay with 22 points on the evening, and earned a double-double after grabbing 12 rebounds. She also had four assists and two steals.
Artis was good for 11 points for the Lady Panther cause. She also claimed two rebounds, steals, and assists in her work on the court Monday night.
“This wasn’t a pretty game for us, but we found a way to get another win,” Bonifield said. “Coach Cayton had his young team ready to play tonight.”
Waverly will travel to West Portsmouth Thursday evening to take on the Lady Senators. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
The Lady Panthers will travel to Beaver, Ohio Thursday night, as they take on the Eastern Lady Eagles. That game has a scheduled 6 p.m. tipoff.
