Heritage Farm Museum and Village, in Huntington, W.Va., will soon have some visitors from the Portsmouth area. Hill View Retirement Center is planning a trip which they are extending to non-Hill View residents also. According to Angela Adams, Outreach Director at Hill View, the bus will depart at 8 a.m. from the main entrance at Hill View on Sept. 9.

“We will be going to lunch, but lunch will be at the expense of the participants, but the price of the tour and the transportation is what is included in the cost,” Adams said.

The cost to attend the trip is $23 for a non-Hill View resident, and $16.60 for residents. Participants will have lunch at Jim’s Steak and Spaghetti House, located in downtown Huntington.

“We are trying to choose activities and tours that are affordable, because in this economy it can be a challenge to do expensive trips that are over night and have accommodations. That adds up really quickly, and many people can’t afford to do that,” she said. So we are trying to make them affordable day trips that people will also allow people to have fun, they can go to fun places that they have been to, or may have the opportunity to revisit.”

To the best of her knowledge, she said this will be Hill View’s first time visiting Heritage Farm and Museum as a group.

Heritage Farm and Museum and Village is composed of multiple museums rooted in Appalachian culture, including a Heritage, Transportation, Progress, Industry, Country Store, and Bowes and Doll and Carriage Museums.

“I am sure that individually, people have been, but I do not believe that we have taken a tour here,” she said.

Her objective is to plan at least one affordable trip at Hill View each month.

“Now, I am trying to plan one low cost, fun day trip per month, and we will see how that goes,” she said. “We do have the resources here, and would just like to invite folks that perhaps attend 55 and older clubs in different townships in the local area. That is probably the population of people that would have the time to go on the trips with us.”
