Education Notes


  • The Scioto County Career Technical Center will have its Regular Board Meeting on August 10th at 5:00 p.m., and will be held in the Taylor Bldg of the School (951 Vern Riffe Dr.)
  • The Scioto County Board of Developmental Disabilities met July 20, 2017 at 4:45 P.M. In addition to routine business, the Board took the following actions: Received presentation of proposed new SCBDD logo and approved logo. Discussed sign project for VRS building, and authorized the Superintendent to obtain three letterhead quotes to be presented to the Board for further review. Reviewed and approved the 2016 Annual Report. Approved revised Policy 3.05.01-Compensation. Approved the revised Table of Organization. The next regular Board meeting will be conducted Thursday, August 17, 2017 at 4:45 P.M. at STAR, Inc., 2625 Gallia Street, Portsmouth OH 45662. An Ethics Committee meeting will be held at 4:30 P.M. at the same place if there is a need. All meetings are open to the public with the exception of Executive Session.

  • The Southern Ohio Academy Board of Directors will hold its regular meeting at noon on Aug. 11, 2017. The meeting will be held in the conference room of the South Central Ohio Educational Service Center, located at 522 Glenwood Ave., in New Boston, Ohio. The SOA Board meets regularly on the second Friday of each month.
  • ​​The Wheelersburg Local School District Board of Education met in regular session on Monday, July 24, 2017 at the Central Office on Center Street. Business and Recommendations Presented by the Treasurer: Approval of June 2017 Financial Report, Approval of Donations: Wheelersburg Athletic Association, The Ribber, Fred’s Restaurant, Dr. Kemmely Hochstetler, HRP Racing, Wheelersburg Band Boosters, Kroger, Approval of three (3) purchase orders. Business and Recommendations Presented by the Local Superintendent: Approval of plan for Alternative Make-up of Calamity Days for 2017-2018 school year, Approval of the universal free breakfast program for preschool through twelfth grade students for the 2017-2018 school year, Approval of Contract, Employment of Latchkey Aide, Employment of Instructional Aide, Employment of Substitute Support Staff, Approval of resolution congratulating WHS Softball Team and Coach Teresa Ruby, Approved a resolution of intent not to provide career and technical education in grades 7 and 8 during the 2017-2018 school year, Approval of 2017-2018 membership dues for The Ohio Coalition for Equity & Adequacy of School Funding, Accepted resignation of supplemental duty personnel, Approval of resolutions (2), Employment of supplemental duty personnel, Employment of teachers (2), Employment of custodians (2), Approval of resolution for participation in the META Solutions cooperative bus purchasing program for the 2017-2018 school year, Approval of a contract, Approval of volunteers for the 2017-2018 school year, Employment of substitute support staff, Acceptance of donation. The Board of Education will meet in regular session on August 28, 2017 at 6:00 PM at the Board Office on Center Street.

  • The Clay Local School District will have its annual new student registration on August 10, 2017 from the hours of 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Please bring the following to registration: copies of the child’s Birth Certificate, child’s Social Security Card, child’s Immunization Record, most recent custody papers (if applicable), A copy of any IEP or 504 Plan (if applicable).
