WEST UNION — Betty Jean Artis, 74, of West Union, passed away Monday, January 30, 2017 at Adams County Manor.

She was born September 14, 1942 in Lucasville, a daughter of the late Chester and Dorothy Gilley Nance.

Betty was a former employee of Mitchellace, a waitress for the Jim Dandy restaurant in Portsmouth, and a 1960 Valley High School graduate.

She is survived by one daughter, Edrith (Terry) Martin of West Union; one son, Jeffrey Nance and his friend, Stephanie Park of Clarktown; four grandchildren, Rachel Fogle, Taylor Martin, Joshua Nance, and Tiffani Nance; seven great-grandchildren; step-mother Janet Nance of Minford; one sister Charlotte (Greg) Staten of Vidor, Texas; and one step sister, Shirley Adkins of Canal Winchester.

Betty was also preceded in death by one great-granddaughter; two brothers, Donald And Ronnie Nance; and one sister, Edna Mae Hefflin.

Graveside services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 1, 2017 in Lucasville Cemetery with the Rev. Jason Hayslip officiating. Friends may call from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the McKinley Funeral Home in Lucasville.
