Local man airlifted following accident

Union, Twp. – At approximately 11:11am, the Portsmouth Dispatch Center of the Ohio State Highway Patrol received a call from the Scioto County 911 Center, advising of a two vehicle crash on Henley-Deemer Rd, approximately one mile south of SR 348.

911 Dispatchers advised that the injury crash involved a FedEx delivery truck and a Kubota farm tractor.

The FedEx delivery truck was driven by Timmy Hale, age 52, of Chillicothe. Marlena Butcher, age 56, of Greenfield, was a passenger. Neither occupant required medical treatment at the scene.

The Kubota farm tractor was driven by Roger Shope, age 49, of McDermott.

Shope was airlifted from the scene to St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington, WVa.

Hale was driving south on Henley-Deemer Rd and Shope was attempting to cross the road from a farm field entrance. Shope failed to yield the right of way and was struck by Hale.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by Union Twp. EMS and VFD.

The crash remains under investigation.
