Shawnee race rescheduled

The cross country race hosted by Shawnee State University scheduled for Thursday, June 23, 2016 at Earl Thomas Conley Park, also known as Riverside Park in West Portsmouth, Ohio has been rescheduled due to the inclement weather that passed through the area. The race has been rescheduled for Thursday, June 30, 2016.

The public is invited to attend. Registration is only $5 and $10 if the participant wants a t-shirt as well.

Races will also be held July, 14 and August 13, 2016.

Minford Pee Wee Football sign-ups

Minford Pee Wee Football will be holding sign-ups Saturday, July 2, 2016 at the football field house, a part of the Minford Sports Complex. Sign-ups will begin at noon and will last until 3:00 p.m.

The Minford Sports Complex is located off SR 335 in Minford and is where Minford Pee Wee practices and home games are held.

Sign-ups are open to two age groups, first and second graders, for flag football, as well as third through sixth graders, for tackle football.

Fees will be $35 for flag football (first and second graders) and $75 for tackle football (third through sixth graders). Fees include new jerseys and use of league equipment.

The league will be using a new lighter jersey this year for all age groups.

Those needing to make payments for league fees or needing to make special arrangements are encouraged to ask during sign-ups.

Jackson Freedom Fest 5K Run

The 20th annual Jackson County Freedom Fest 5K Run and Walk will be held Monday, July 4, 2016 in Jackson, Ohio. The event will start at 9:00 a.m. at Manpower Park on Main Street.

Entry fee for the race is $20 for pre-registration and $25 the day of the race. Proceeds from the race will go toward sponsoring community events by the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce.

Participating runners will receive newly-designed dry-weave Sports Festival t-shirts.

Plaques will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers, with medals going to to the top three finishers in all age divisions.

A one-mile walk will also be held at the same time of the 5K. Those participating in the walk will not have a registration fee but may be able to purchase a shirt for $10.

Southern Ohio Force tryouts

The Southern Ohio Force will be holding tryouts for the upcoming 2016-17 travel softball season. Tryouts will be held to field three teams, 9U, 10U and 12U. Team eligibility will be determined by the participant’s age as of January 1, 2017.

Tryout dates will be Tuesday, July 5, and Sunday, July 10, all beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Tryouts will occur in the gym at The Complex in West Portsmouth, Ohio, the old Portsmouth West High School. Those interested in trying out are to bring a glove, bat and tennis shoes. No cleats will be allowed at tryouts.

A $300 registration fee will be due by August 1, 2016 if the player makes the team.

Tournaments will be ASA and USSSA sanctioned.

2016 Portsmouth Rough Riders Football and Cheer sign-ups

Portsmouth Rough Riders Football and Cheerleading will hold sign-ups Saturday, July 9, 2016, at Larry Moore Sporting Goods. Sign-ups will occur from 9:00 a.m. until noon.

Football, both flag and tackle, along with cheerleading registration will have a $40 fee per child and a $30 fee for each additional child in the family.

Portsmouth Rough Riders Football and Cheer Camp

The Notre Dame Titans will hold a football and cheer camp with the Portsmouth Rough Riders Saturday, July 23, 2016 at historic Spartan Municipal Stadium in Portsmouth, Ohio.

The camp is open to boys and girls in grades second through eighth, and will focus on fundamentals and sportsmanship.

Camp will begin at 9:00 a.m. and conclude at noon.

Cost is $30 per child and $25 for each additional child within the same family.

Each camper will receive a lunch along with a camp t-shirt to commemorate the event.

Registration for the camp will take place an hour before camp, from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m., Saturday, July 23, 2016 at Spartan Municipal Stadium, as well as at all Portsmouth Rough Riders Football and Cheerleading sign-up locations.
