Several local junior high students performed at the Middle School Ohio State Track Meet Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Dublin High School in Dublin, Ohio. Minford’s Bryson Ashley and Ty Wiget represented the Falcons, while Mason Blizzard and Emma Bailey represented the Jeeps of South Webster at the annual meet held for seventh and eighth grade track athletes in Ohio.
All four athletes placed in the top eight of an event at the state meet, showing great promise for their futures in the sport as well as potential
Ashley finished with a second-place medal, after his 54.5 seconds performance in the boys 400 meters dash. The young Falcon set a new SOC record in the same event earlier this year, when he ran the 400 with a 53.8 seconds finish.
Wiget finished with a seventh-place medal in his event, the 200 meters dash. His time of 24.73 seconds was enough to place in the top eight for Minford. He also finished first at the SOC meet earlier this season in the 200 meters event.
Ashley and Wiget shared the individual high point SOC awards, before eventually advancing to the state meet.
Running in the 800 meters, South Webster’s Bizzard recorded a fifth-place finish in the event. He timed in at 2:18 against the rest of the pack, which gave the Jeep an honorable finish in the race.
Competing in the field was Bailey from South Webster. She threw her way to a first-place medal finish in shot put, besting all other competitors in the event. The seventh grader recorded a 39-feet-2-inches throw of the shot to take home first place in the event.
In all, over 1,600 junior-high athletes registered for the state track meet.
