The Notre Dame Titans played host to the Portsmouth Trojans Tuesday evening, and picked up a 5-2 win in the process.
The Trojans took an early lead over the Titans after scoring one run in the top of the second inning. Portsmouth’s lead would last until the bottom half of the third when Notre Dame tied the game 1-1.
Notre Dame would then take the lead in the fourth inning, as they brought two runs across the plate. They would repeat their performance in the fifth inning as well, gaining an additional two runs.
As the game ventured into the sixth inning, the Notre Dame Titans had nearly total control, boasting a 5-1 lead.
After a scoreless sixth inning, the Trojans faced a four-run deficit and only three outs left to prevent a loss.
In the seventh, Portsmouth managed to get one run, but was unable to pull off the rally, as Notre Dame picked up a 5-2 victory.
Drew Cassidy got the win for Notre Dame, as he was the pitcher of record. He pitched all seven innings, allowing two runs, both earned, and three hits. Cassidy gave up a pair of walks, but fanned eight Trojan batters.
CJ Corns was an essential part of the Titans offense Tuesday evening. He went 2-3 from the plate driving in a run, while also scoring one.
Sam Kayser led the team in RBIs with two. He finished the night 1-3 batting for the Titans.
The Titans will travel to Beaver, Ohio on Friday evening, as they take on SOC I rival, the Eastern Eagles. Game time is set for 5:00 p.m.
Portsmouth will host the Ironton Fighting Tigers on Friday evening. First pitch has been slated for 7:00 p.m. at Hatcher Field.
