ROSEMOUNT – The Clay Lady Panthers continued their winning ways of the 2016 softball season by picking up their seventh win of the season. The Lady Panthers played host to the West Lady Senators on Saturday afternoon, and defeated West in convincing fashion.
Holding on to a two run lead leading into the bottom of the fifth inning, the Lady Panthers bats blew up, as Clay scored eight runs in the inning to force the end of the game. With the explosive fifth inning, Clay would defeat West 13-3.
Freshman Jensen Warnock got the win for the Panthers Saturday, as she went four and one-third innings against the Lady Senators. Warnock improved to 3-1 on the season with her performance which saw her give up zero earned runs with five strikeouts and six walks.
Warnock helped her own cause Saturday as well, going 2-4 from the plate against West. She had one triple in the game and knocked in three runs, while scoring once.
The Lady Panthers had three other batters with two-hit days, Wells, Collins, and Cooper.
Wells had a pair of doubles, driving in three runs, and having a pair of scores.
Collins was 2-3 on the afternoon and scored once, while Cooper had a double, brought in two runs, and scored twice.
Taylor Coleman was the pitcher of record for the Lady Senators. She pitched five innings in the loss, surrendering 12 earned runs, and three walks. She also struck out three Clay batters in the process.
Butcher and Kelsie each got a hit for the Lady Senators.
