Shawnee State volleyball Senior Day

SSU Volleyball hosted #10 ranked Life University for Senior Day. We honored the accomplishments of 5 seniors, all who are recognized as All-Academic Mid-South Conference for their accomplishments: #2 Nashail Shelby, #3 Maddie Payne, #9 Macie Rhoads, #17 Maria Kolinoff, and #20 Isabella Gill.

The Running Eagles proved to be too much the home squad this afternoon. The first set was tight to start, with SSU taking a 10-9 lead midway through. However, a quick mini-run by Life allowed them to take a 13-10 lead they would not relinquish, eventually taking the first set 25-18.

The second set saw Life jump out to an early 6-2 lead, they would eventually stretch into 16-9 advantage. The Running Eagles managed to keep the momentum finishing the set 25-16 taking a 2-0 lead.

The Bears came out swinging in the third set jumping out to 5-2 lead. However, Life climbed back into the set taking their first lead 8-7 and eventually pushing it out to 17-11. The Bears showed their fighting spirit getting to within three at 22-19. Unfortunately, they couldn’t complete the comeback as Life would take the match with 25-22 third set victory.

— Macie Rhoads led the way with 13 kills (hitting .286) and 13 digs

— Maddie Payne had 14 assists and 6 digs

— Maria Kolinoff had 11 digs

— Nashail Shelby had 4 kills to go along with 6 digs and 3 blocks

— Isabella Gill had 2 kills on her 4 attempts

Congratulations to our five Seniors! We wish them the best of luck as we begin MSC Tournament action Thursday, November 11th at 11:00 AM (10:00 Central) taking on Bethel in Bowling Green, KY.
