The Wheelersburg Lady Pirates defeated the Waverly Lady Tigers in a shortened five-inning game Monday evening.

Playing at home, Wheelersburg had three big innings which led to the demise of their SOC II foe, the Waverly Lady Tigers, 12-1.

Faith Howard pitched for the Lady Pirates, going the distance with five innings of work. She gave up two hits to the Lady Tigers, and one walk. Howard struck one batter out in the contest.

Howard was the pitcher of record, getting the win.

The bats were hot on a cold Monday evening for the Lady Pirates. Kalle Coleman went 2-4 at the plate, picking up two singles and scoring two runs. Brittany Swim knocked in four runs for Wheelersburg in her 3-4 performance.

Michal Cunningham and Laiken Salyers had productive nights swinging the bat. Cunningham was 1-3 with a double, and scored a run, while Salyers had a pair of hits, a double and a single.

Wheelersburg scored in the second, third and fourth innings. The Lady Pirates put four runs on the board in the second inning, following with a single run in the third, before finally getting their last seven runs in the fourth inning.

Waverly’s lone run came in the fifth inning.

With the win, Wheelersburg improves to 5-0 (3-0 SOC).
