Valley wins in home opener

LUCASVILLE, Ohio – The Valley Lady Indians softball team defeated the Clay Lady Panthers Tuesday evening at Valley High School. The Indians shutout the Panthers in a game shortend five innings, 16-0.

Amber Altman took the mound for the Indians Tuesday night, and had impressive showings from the rubber and at the plate. Altman faced 22 Clay batters, giving up seven hits, one walk, and zero runs. She finished the game with three strikeouts.

At the plate, Altman went 3-4, all singles, and scored two times. She also hit in a pair of runs.

Faith Brown, Destiny Gardner, Margie Cauldwell, and Keana Schackart all had a couple of hits in the 16-0 rout of the Panthers.

Brown led the team with three RBIs, and scored once. Destiny Gardner had a pair of RBIs, and runs scored, while Schackart also scored twice. Cauldwell would bring in one run as well as scoring once.

The Panthers had a trio of players with two hits, Jensen Warnock, Abby Ware, and Tressa Carter. Warnock also had the team’s only walk of the evening.

Valley scored twice in the first inning Tuesday, and then used that momentum to add eight runs in the second inning, and another six innings in the third.

The Indians will host the Oak Hill Oaks Friday evening. First pitch is set for 5:00 p.m.

Clay will host the Eastern Eagles Thursday evening. Game time is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
