Lady Senators shut out visiting Oak Hill

WEST PORTSMOUTH — The Portsmouth West Lady Senators received a big boost from Sydney McDermott on Friday in their 4-0 shutout win over Oak Hill in SOC II play, both on the hill and at the plate.

McDermott added 13 strikeouts to her season-total, earning a complete game win by allowing just three hits and three walks.

West (6-6, 3-5 SOC II) took a 1-0 lead in the home half of the third inning when freshman Kate Rollins reached via error, scoring Emma Sayre from second base.

Rollins scored in the bottom of the 6th when McDermott singled her in from second base. McDermott finished the contest 2-of-3 with her RBI being one of three West had in the victory.

With one out in the sixth, Jordan Hammond had a two RBI single that scored pinch runner McKenzie Monk and Abi Boland.

McDermott and Sayre both had two hits apiece, while Maelynn Howell, Rollins, Boland, and Hammond all had a hit each as part of their 8-total team hits.
