Minford’s Martin one-hits Eastern

BEAVER — Minford’s Noah Martin held Eastern in check at the plate and helped lead the Falcons to a season opening win in Southern Ohio Confernce Division II play.

Martin allowed just one hit, walked one batter and struck out four in his six innings as his Falcons defeated the Eagles 11-0.

The Falcons’ defense committed zero errors, while Eastern committed seven and helped Minford produce runs in their final two outings at the plate.

In total, Minford scored nine of their 11 runs in the fifth and sixth innings combined. Elijah Vogelsong-Lewis and Mason Book had extra-base hits in the top of the third to break open their scoring colum and give the Falcons an early 2-0 lead.

Six different Falcons had an RBI in the win, including Vogelsong-Lewis, Book, Martin, Aodhan Queen, Ben McGraw, and Branson Alley.

Minford senior Matthew Risner totaled three hits in four at-bats while also scoring two runs. Queen and Book also each recorded two hits in four trips to the plate.

Eastern’s Trenten Brown broke up Martin’s no-hit bid in the bottom of the fifth on a single to shortstop.
