New Boston 3, Coal Grove 1 (25-17, 13-25, 25-15, 25-18)

NEW BOSTON — The New Boston Lady Tigers volleyball team won its first game of the 2020 season on Wednesday, a 3-1 home win over the visiting Coal Grove Lady Hornets.

Senior Shelby Easter had a team-high 11 kills, while junior Kenzie Whitley had eight.

Jadelyn Lawson finished with six assists as Cadence Williams and Dylan O’Rourke each had three kills apiece.

After improving to 1-1, New Boston will travel to Minford on Saturday for a non-league game versus the Lady Falcons.

Minford 5, Southeastern 2

RICHMOND DALE — In their first two contests, Minford sophomore Haley Knore has tallied a total of five goals — including four in the Lady Falcons’ 5-2 win on Wednesday over Southeastern to improve to 1-0-1.

Knore scored three of her four goals during the final 23:43 of the first half to give the Lady Falcons a 3-1 lead at halftime.

Junior Haley Sherman assisted Knore on the Lady Falcons’ second goal, while freshman Hannah Dengel assisted on Minford’s third goal.

Minford sophomore Mychal Cron added an unassisted goal, her first of the season, to give Minford a 4-2 lead with 18:20 remaining in the second half.

Knore’s fourth and final goal, assisted by freshman Sadie Hatfield, came less than two minutes later at the 16:33 mark to push the Lady Falcons ahead 5-2.

Minford will travel to Northwest on Sept. 1 for its Southern Ohio Conference opening match.
