Despite losses by 6-1 and 7-0 margins to the nationally ranked programs at Lindsey Wilson, the tennis programs at Shawnee State obtained a victory from Regan Osborn at No. 6 singles on Saturday at the Beechmont Racquet Club in Cincinnati.
Osborn, who collected a victory in singles play against Laci Lee last year, defeated Emilia Allen at the No. 6 slot to claim her second consecutive victory over a Blue Raider in as many seasons with the Bears. She is the only player to accomplish such a feat — and, ironically, won in the same amount of games as she did last season, winning by a 6-4, 6-2 margin over Allen compared to her 6-2, 6-4 triumph over Lee the year prior.
In addition to Osborn, Jessica Willard also put together a solid showing at No. 3 singles, taking six sets from Lindsey Wilson’s Sevval Ozseker before ultimately falling by a 7-5, 6-1 margin. The duo of Molly Stockton and Katelyn Pauley also fared well at No. 3 doubles, battling Ozseker and Allen to a 6-4 draw that the latter pair ultimately emerged victorious from, while Grace Eberhard won a set apiece in her match against Lindsey Wilson’s Alexandra Parra at No. 1 singles.
Jacob Freeland was able to take a pair of sets — one in each game — from Xavier Vicent at No. 4 singles, but the Bears only mustered up one additional set victory on the men’s side en route to dropping in defeat.
With the defeats, the Shawnee State men’s and women’s tennis programs fell to 3-3 overall and 0-2 in Mid-South Conference competition for the spring. The Bears will attempt to get on the board when SSU takes on UPike in another MSC tilt. That contest will commence on Friday, March 13 at 2 p.m.
