WEST PORTSMOUTH — The Portsmouth West Lady Senators’ season came to its official end on Saturday, as host West —in a mandatory makeup matchup against Oak Hill — fell by a count of 50-33.
West last played in its Division III sectional semifinal on Feb. 12, losing to Fairland 53-47 —and eventually having to wait 10 days before finally getting in its makeup contest with the Lady Oaks.
The Lady Senators wrapped up their much-improved season at 10-13, and at 5-11 in the Southern Ohio Conference Division II.
Oak Hill, which will play for the Division III district championship against 23-1 Eastern Brown on Saturday at noon inside Waverly’s Downtown Arena, raised its record to 17-8 —and wrapped up third-place in the SOC II at 11-5.
Against Oak Hill, the Lady Senators trailed 17-11 after the opening quarter and 33-18 at halftime.
The Lady Oaks then outscored them 9-4 in third frame, as freshman Charlie Jo Howard had all four of the Lady Senators’ points in that period —a three-point goal and a split of free throws.
Howard had 11 points on three total field goals and 4-of-6 free throws, while Morgan Rigsby and Emily Sissel scored three baskets apiece for six points.
Haley Coleman had all five of her points in the fourth quarter on a bucket and a three-point play, while Abby Pack popped a three-pointer in the fourth — and Eden Cline canned a pair of first-quarter free throws.
Caitlyn Brisker, on eight baskets and 7-of-8 foul shots, poured in 23 points to pace the winners.
Brooke Howard had 11 points on five total field goals and Olivia Clarkson netted nine points on four, as both Howard and Clarkson connected on a three-pointer apiece.
Chloe Chambers with five points and Peyton Miller with a bucket rounded out the Oak Hill scoring.
It was the final game for three Lady Senator seniors: Rigsby, Sissel and Pack.
