GC basketball coaches suspended, player ruled ineligible

LLOYD, Ky. — Greenup County superintendent Traysea Moresea announced the suspension of head boys coach Robert Amis and assistant coach Jeff Large for the remainder of the season and that a Musketeers player has been deemed ineligible.

The announced moves follows Greenup County’s 76-56 win over Fleming County, Friday, with Amis on the sideline.

The self-imposed actions are the result of a KHSAA draft report the school received on Feb. 20, according to a press release from the school. Further actions could be taken pending the KHSAA’s final report.

“These decisions were made to protect the overall Greenup County athletic program,” Moresea said in the release. “Our main concern is for our student-athletes who have worked hard to reach their personal goals. We will continue to show our resolve to do things correctly on behalf of our students, coaches and the entire GC community throughout this process.”

Amis later posted to Twitter, “Being from the mountains of eastern (Kentucky), you’re a fighter. My main concern is the well-being of my players. Even if I’m not allowed to coach, I would like to see the full team on the floor. The player in question has been eligible all year and I hope he gets to join his teammates.”

Greenup County is scheduled to meet Lewis County in Tuesday’s upcoming district semifinals to be hosted in Lloyd.
