Seth Farmer will get the opportunity to defend his 2019 National Championship in the one mile next month by setting a NAIA National ‘A’ Standard in the event.
Jessica Price set her second NAIA ‘A’ Standard in as many days and her third of the season by posting a NAIA ‘A’ Standard mark in the 3,000-meter run.
It was all part of another fruitful day on the track for Shawnee State, with Farmer and Price carrying the torch once again for the Bears on Day Two of the Akron Invitational in Akron on Saturday.
Farmer, who ran in the small-sized, but highly-skilled Men’s One Mile Gold Division field at the Akron Invitational, used a 4:14.06 to best the required NAIA National ‘A’ Standard time of 4:19.50 by more than five seconds.
The senior, who finished sixth in the event, ran an even better time in preliminary seeding by notching a 4:11.79.
Both times sit within reachable range of his national championship-winning mark of 4:11.72 from last season.
Price, who just posted her second NAIA ‘A’ Standard time of the year less than 24 hours prior in the 5,000-meter run by notching a 17:58.05, added in her first NAIA ‘A’ Standard time in the 3,000-meter run by posting a 10:23.95 to finish fourth of 16 competitors in the Women’s 3,000-Meter Blue Division Run.
Her time, which was more than four seconds faster than the necessary NAIA ‘A’ Standard time of 10:28, was a better mark than 10 NCAA Division I runners which participated in the same race.
Behind the star duo, the remaining participants under the SSU banner fared well.
Faheem Gilbert, who finished 14th in premlinaries, missed a NAIA National ‘B’ Standard time by just a tenth-and-a-half in the Men’s 60 Meter Dash Gold Division race while Thryceton Deckard, who finished 11th in the 800-meter run while edging out six NCAA Division I runners, missed NAIA National ‘B’ Standard qualification by less than three seconds with his 1:59.84 missing the necessary 1:56.90 for ‘B’ Standard qualification in the Men’s 800 Meter Blue Division Run
Hunter Benington, who finished 12th in the One Mile Blue Division Run, posted a 4:32 to finish exactly 10 seconds off of the needed NAIA ‘B’ Standard time, while Jessica Cook’s 2:30.11 in the Women’s 800 Meter Blue Division Run sat just over 10 seconds off of NAIA ‘B’ Standard form.
