MCDERMOTT – The Northwest Mohawks boys basketball team entered Tuesday’s game with a chance of ending the longest active boys Southern Ohio Conference Division II losing streak with a win over the visiting Eastern Eagles – a streak which dates back to the 2017-18 season. The Mohawks played the Eagles to a 44-41 final in Beaver earlier this season.

Instead, it was the visiting Eagles who left McDermott with a 58-38 road win. Northwest falls to 1-13 following Tuesday’s loss.

Eastern’s Hunter Cochenour and Northwest’s Billy Crabtree led all scorers with a game-high 12 points apiece.

The Eagles managed to connect on five field goals of the three-point variety, each of which came during the first half when the Eagles would establish their early lead. Northwest’s lone three-point make came from freshman Dakotra Secrest in the fourth quarter.

Eastern freshman Neil Leist scored a game-high 11 first quarter points while helping his Eagles to a 15-8 lead after one. The Mohawks, however, would keep Leist scoreless for the remainder of the game.

Northwest’s Brycen Carver scored eight points for the Mohawks while Brayden Campbell and Secrest scored seven apiece, and Judd Evans and Braxton Marcum scored two apiece.

Northwest will travel to Valley on Friday in search of their first league win of the season.
