IRONTON — Individual accomplishments have a habit of also coming at the most opportune time for a team.

In Green’s 57-54 road win over Ironton St. Joseph — the second-place team in the Southern Ohio Conference Division I race as of Friday afternoon — senior forward Gage Sampson scored his 1,000th career point in a Bobcat uniform on a jump shot in the third quarter of Friday’s win.

Needing just 12 points to eclipse the 1,000-mark entering Friday’s game, Sampson connected on a jump shot in the third quarter to help pass the career milestone. Sampson scored 11 of his tied-for game-high 18 points in the third quarter while connecting on eight-made field goals for the game.

The Bobcats’ strongest quarter came when they outscored the Flyers 24-19 in the third — with Sampson scoring 11 of his team’s 24 points.

In each of his 15 games played this season, the first-team all-Southeast District senior forward has scored at least 14 points while helping guide the Bobcats to a winning record with seven games to go before the start of tournament play.

Green’s win Friday is its second straight over an SOC I foe after Tuesday’s 54-51 home win over Clay, improving its conference record to 4-5 — with an overall record of 8-7 ahead of Saturday’s road trip to face the Fairview (Ky.) Eagles.

For Green, Ethan Huffman scored 14 points in the win, Levi Sampson scored seven, Levi Singleton scored six, Trevor Darnell scored six, Alec Smith scored four, and Caden Brammer had two.

Zach Roach led the Flyers with a tied-for game-high 18 points.
