LUCASVILLE – At her signing ceremony Thursday morning, Valley senior Gabriella Egbert signed her letter of intent to continue her education and join the women’s tennis team at Ohio Christian University.
“It’s unreal,” Egbert said amongst friends and family at Thursday’s signing. “Entering high school I never thought I’d be able to do this, I’m really excited for the opportunity.”
Egbert is a four-year varsity tennis player at Valley and a one-year track athlete for the Indians.
The Trailblazers’ men’s and women’s tennis programs are fairly new as each program began competition in the 2016-17 school year.
When Ohio Christian extended Egbert the opportunity to continue her education and tennis career, the fit almost made too much sense for all involved parties.
“Ohio Christian is the only place in Ohio with an emergency management and disaster relief program,” Egbert said. “And it was perfect because I was wanting to go to a Christian school. When I went for a college day visit, I was talking to the coach and he offered me the chance to play.
“I didn’t know if I was going to be good enough to play in college,” Egbert continued. “So I’m really excited to have the opportunity to be able to do that. I’ve worked for four years to get to this point, so I’m very excited to be able to do this.”
