BAINBRIDGE – The Piketon Lady Red Streaks picked up a close win over the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats 44-41, Saturday morning, in a matchup at the Paint Valley Classic (PVC). The Lady Redstreaks played the early game Saturday at the PVC, and showed resiliency as they battled from behind to pull off the close win.

The Lady Redstreaks maintained leads at the end of the first and second quarters, outscoring the Lady Wildcats 14-11 in the first quarter, and tying the Lady Wildcats in scoring for the second quarter, as each team socred eight points.

At halftime, the Lady Redstreaks kept a three point lead over the Lady Wildcats, 22-19.

The third quarter proved to be a tough test for the Piketon Lady Redstreaks, as the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats held Piketon to only three points in the entirety of the third quarter. The Lady Wildcats offense took advantage of the Lady Redstreaks scoring drought, as Whiteoak put up 10 points in the quarter, giving the Lady Wildcats a 29-25 lead over the Lady Redstreaks.

“We were down seven, (at one point), in the third quarter, and then by five in the fourth,” Lady Redstreaks Coach Brett Coreno said. “Everyone who played contributed.”

Piketon rallied against Whiteoak in the fourth quarter. The Lady Redstreaks went on a scoring spree that saw Piketon add 19 points in the fourth quarter alone, matching the entire first half offensive output by the Lady Wildcats.

Lady Redstreaks freshman guard Gracie Lightle hit a clutch three pointer late in the fourth quarter to help put Piketon over the top.

After the final buzzer was heard, the Piketon Lady Redstreaks came out on top defeating the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats 44-41.

Junior forward, Kara Blanton finished the morning with a double-double, 12 points, and 10 rebounds.

“Kara finished with a double-double, and Faith’s (Pack) defense on Wardflow was solid all game,” Coreno said.

Pack shined on offense as well as defense, as she finished with 12 points, eight rebounds, and six assists.

Avery Reuter, had a notable performance as well for the Lady Redstreaks. She scored 10 points on the day, and showed her unselfishness by racking up three assists.

“Reuter’s defense on their point guard was huge down the stretch,” Coreno added.

The Piketon Lady Redstreaks will next play on Tuesday, December 1st. They will host the Adena Lady Warriors of Frankfort, Ohio. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
