On Saturday, Northwest hosted the 2018 SOC Cross Country championships.

The Minford girls’ cross country team won their first ever conference championship by running a total time of 2:00:05.94 with an average time of completing the 5K course at 24:01.19. The members of the Minford Lady Falcons conference champion team include Emily Shoemaker, Kara Dillon, Jenna Powell, Abby McKinney, and Katie Coriell. Shoemaker ran well enough to land a spot on the Girls All-SOC 1st Team alongside Abigail Cochenour of Eastern, Olivia Messer of South Webster, Sarah Crabtree of Waverly, Macy Mullett of Oak Hill, Sylvia Evans of Western, and Olivia Cisco of Waverly. Dillon, Powell, and McKinney all were placed on the Girls All-SOC second team alongside McKenna Dunham of Valley, Brooke Shope of Northwest, Tori Ratliff of Green, and Abby Ray of Waverly.

The Lady Falcons placed ahead of Waverly who placed second, South Webster who placed third, Green who placed fourth, and Valley who placed fifth.

In the boys’ portion of the competition, the Waverly Tigers were able to take home the SOC championship with a total time of 1:26:25.81 with an average time of 17:17.17 among their five best runners. Members of the conference champion Waverly team include Aidan Judd, Philip Evory, Trevor Penrod, Calob Ramirez, Jack Monroe, Sawyer Pendleton, Spencer Fraley, Ty Reisinger, Austin Dunn, Cristian Mossbarger, A.J. Sibole, and Josh Heigley. Judd, Evory, and Penrod ran well enough to place on the Boys’ All-SOC first team alongside Evan Leist of Eastern, Landen Smith of Northwest, Matthew Harris of Minford, and Dutch Byrd of Minford. Ramirez and Monroe ran well enough to be placed on the Boys’ All-SOC second team along side Josh Shope of Northwest, James Hallam of Green, Gabe Morrell of Northwest, Ricky Gambill of Northwest, and Kailan Marshall of Northwest.

The Tigers placed first ahead of Northwest who finished second, Green who finished third, Eastern who finished fourth, South Webster who finished fifth, Wheelersburg who finished sixth, Portsmouth West who finished seventh, and Notre Dame who finished eighth.
