Waverly Post 142 won in walk-off fashion Wednesday afternoon in a 4-3 victory over the Canal Patriots.

With the game tied in the bottom of the seventh inning, Oak Hill’s Shane Spriggs came to the plate with a chance to win the game. With one on and one out, Spriggs sent a deep shot to center that scored Minford’s Dylan Shockley from first base to give the Shockers the victory.

Post 142 cracked the scoreboard first in Wednesday’s game. After Portsmouth’s Sky Oliver and Minford’s Shawn Mersiel reached base with walks, Rio Grande commit Matt Joyce brought them both home with a single to give the Shockers a 2-0 lead.

Shockley gave Waverly a 3-0 lead in the fifth inning with a homer to deep left center.

But just when it seemed Post 142 had the game in hand, Canal struck back. Two walks and two singles led to two runs in the top of the sixth, and the Patriots tied the game up in their final at-bat thanks to two more singles and a walk.

With the win, Post 142 improves to 7-2 overall, and remains 3-0 in Region 5 play. The Shockers are back in action on Thursday, when they host Chillicothe Post 757.
