The Valley soccer team picked up a big non-conference victory over Piketon on Wednesday, as the Indians topped the Redstreaks 7-0 at the Valley athletic complex.

Six different players scored for the Indians, led by senior Bryce Romanello with two goals and an assist.

“Its always encouraging to see lots of people involved in the offense, getting chances to score and playing well and playing as a team,” Valley soccer coach Jeremy Duncan said.

The Indians didn’t waste any time in the game, as Zack Gahm found Aaron Linne on a corner kick during the first minute of the game. Linne finished with a header to the back of the net, and Valley led 1-0.

About two minutes later, Gahm again found a teammate on a corner kick. This time it was Jacob Gibson who came up with a goal on a header.

“It was great to get a couple of goals early, especially on corners, which hasn’t been a strength for us most of the season. Zack put in a couple of beautiful balls and guys were getting to the right spots and making their chances count,” Duncan said.

Hunter Greathouse, Adam Friend and Tanner Spradlin also scored goals for Valley in the win. Gibson came up with three saves as the Indians’ keeper.

Valley takes the field again on Tuesday, when they host Clay in an SOC I match. Piketon resumes SVC play next Thursday, when they travel to Zane Trace.
