The Minford boys soccer team put a scare into Wheelersburg on Tuesday evening. but the threat didn’t last long.

The Pirates (5-0, 1-0 SOC II) began the second half with four unanswered goals to turn a tight 1-1 match into a blowout in a 5-2 win at Minford High School.

The Falcons seemed to have an upset brewing early on, as they took an early 1-0 edge. But Wheelersburg answered back to tie the game at one before halftime.

From there, it was all Wheelersburg. Senior Ethan McCain shifted the momentum early, drilling a penalty kick to give the Pirates their first lead of the day. Christian Hughes, Kurt Kaskey and Dolton Wood all followed suit with their own scores to put the game out of reach. Though Minford senior Jacob Perry added a goal on a direct kick before it was all said and done, the Pirates were still able to hang on for a convincing 5-2 win.

Wheelersburg will have a week off before taking on Northwest next Tuesday in McDermott, while Minford travels to take on West on Thursday.
