One of the few area games to reach its conclusion Friday night, the Wheelersburg Pirates cruised to a 42-8 victory over the Fairland Dragons.
Fresh off his two touchdown game against Ironton, Jordan Howard rushed for 59 yards on 11 attempts while finding the endzone twice against the Dragons.
Making his second start at quarterback for Wheelersburg (2-0), Kyle Davis completed 7-of-8 passes for 76 yards. Davis also added 69 yards on the ground and two touchdowns.
“Great job by Kyle Davis offensively, executing both running and throwing the football,” Pirates head coach Rob Woodward said.
Leading the rushing attack for Wheelersburg, who gained 282 yards as a team, was Keaton Newsome who only carried the rock four times but gained 90 yards.
“The offensive line controlled the line of scrimmage very well,” Woodward said.
Defensively, Jake Darnell recorded four tackles and returned a 45-yard interception for a touchdown.
“Darnell again set the tone early,” Woodward said.
The Pirates travel to Portsmouth in week three.
