The Valley soccer team opened SOC I play on Thursday with a 1-0 win over the New Boston Tigers.

The Indians struck early in the first half, when Jacob Gibson dribbled up the field and unleashed a strike from 30 yards out. His ball found the back of the net, and Valley had all the offense it needed.

That’s because senior keeper Alex Gahm and the Valley defense dialed up the intensity. Though the Indians stayed aggressive on offense, they were still able to pitch a shutout and preserve the win.

“Our defense was up to the task and our goalie, Alex Gahm, had a very strong performance,” Valley coach Jeremy Duncan said. “It was our first shutout of the year and it was well earned.”

The Indians take the field again on Sept. 10, when they host South Webster. The Tigers are back in action on Tuesday, when they host South Point.
