Through the first week of the 2017 season, the West Senators’ golf program has shown that they will be a force to be reckoned with throughout the duration of the golf schedule.
And over the first week of the season, that’s exactly what West has proven.
On Wednesday, West continued to parlay its success into results as the Senators took home a match victory over South Webster in a dual match between the two programs at Shawnee Golf Course in West Portsmouth.
The Senators, who shot a 196 en route to collecting the victory over the Jeeps, were led by Ethan Daniel, who shot a strong 42 in the nine-hole tournament. Daniel collected medalist honors as a result. Fellow teammates Dustin Sowards and Brady Whitt collected scores of 49 and 50 to place second and third, respectively, while Mitchell Malnar rounded out the West scoring lineup with his 55.
After shooting a 230 on Monday evening, South Webster continued to show steady improvement as the Jeeps collected a 226 on the day. Third-year lettermen Jacob Witter and Dylan Bond paced the way by collecting strokes of 54 on the day, while Andrew Smith shot a 56 to give South Webster consistency throughout the first three scoring positions. The fourth scoring golfer on South Webster’s unit, Josh Hammond, made a tremendous improvement as Hammond knocked down his overall score by 10 strokes en route to collecting a 62.
