Lewis County began the game with two consecutive false start penalties. And then, after starring at a 1st-and-20, the Lions fumbled their first official play of the night, which set up the Musketeers at the Lewis County 8-yard line. After two straight incompletions, quarterback Jared Hunt kept the ball on a zone-read play and scored untouched. Caden Warnock made it 8-0 early after scoring on the two-point conversion.

On the Lions’ next possession, a high-snap on a fourth-down punt attempt gave the Musketeers another short field. After a first down incompletion by Hunt, Ryan Bird celebrated his first touchdown of the season.

After missing a short field goal, the Musketeer defense only needed three plays to get the ball back for its offense. Once Greenup County reclaimed the rock, the Musketeers were celebrating Bird’s second rushing score of the night, this one from a yard away. Greenup led 21-0 after the PAT was blocked.

After foiling a 4th-and-9 attempt, Greenup County began it’s fourth scoring drive at the Lewis County 31-yard line. After completing two passes of 19 and six yards, Hunt recorded his second rushing touchdown of the night —from a yard out —to give the Musketeers a 28-0 lead at the break.

First half leaders

Bird and Hunt both found the endzone twice in the first 24 minutes. Bird only touched the ball four times but gained 40 yards. Hunt received eight carries and gained 38 yards. As a team, Greenup County rushed 20 times for 102 yards and four scores.

Hunt completed 6-of-11 passes (to five different receivers) for 49 yards.

Dominance on defense

The Musketeer defense held the Lions to 63 totals yards in the first half and negative 10 yards on the ground. They also forced the fumble on the opening drive, which led to the early score.
