Notre Dame takes care of business, mercies St. Joe

Notre Dame 14, Ironton St. Joseph 4 (F/5)

Behind three hits from Maggie Whitman, and two hits apiece from Molly Hoover, Cassie Schaefer, and Hagen Schaefer at the top of the Notre Dame lineup, the Lady Titans rolled to a 14-4 victory over Ironton St. Joseph in five innings in a Division IV, Minford II Sectional Semifinal on Monday evening on the campus of Notre Dame High School.

Whitman, who went 3-for-4 from the leadoff spot, nabbed a triple and scored three runs thanks to the production of Hoover and Cassie Schaefer, who combined to drive in five runs on the day. Hoover went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored, while Cassie Schaefer went 2-for-4 with a double, a stolen base, and two runs scored. Hagen Schaefer went 2-for-3 from the five-hole with two runs scored, while Makayla Hadsell continued her production from the middle of the order, driving in a pair of runs on a one-out single in the first inning and then adding another run on a 5-3 RBI groundout en route to a 1-for-3 day from the cleanup position.

Sydney Whitman, Alex Glockner, and Catelynn Ball all added at least one hit on the evening, with Ball driving in a pair of runs on a double to cap off a five-run first frame that helped Notre Dame make up an early 2-0 deficit in the first inning of play. Ball went 1-for-3 with her double and two RBI, while Whitman went 1-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored. Glockner capped off Notre Dame’s efforts by going 1-for-3 with a run scored.

Notre Dame will play at Peebles on Thursday at 5 p.m. as the Lady Titans will pursue a Division IV, Minford II Sectional Championship


Clay 6, Piketon 0

Another game, another excellent pitching performance from Hannah Oliver. That was the story as the sophomore’s complete-game two-hitter, along with a five-run outburst between the fifth and sixth innings, allowed Clay to claim another impressive victory over a Division III opponent in Piketon, 6-0, on Monday evening in Piketon.

Behind the efforts of Oliver, who struck out nine Piketon batters while walking only three for a 3-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio, along with Jensen Warnock’s solo home run in the first inning, the Lady Panthers to establish momentum.

Warnock, who added a double and another RBI during the five-run outburst later on, went 3-for-4 with the home run, the double, two RBI, and two runs scored to head the Clay attack. Elisa Collins went 2-for-4 with two RBI while Julia Swain added a double, a RBI, and two runs scored on her own 2-for-4 effort. Shaelynn Vassar also collected two hits in just three trips to the dish.

Lila Brown, who went 1-for-3 with a RBI and a run scored, and Chloi Hayslip, who added a double and a run scored on her 1-for-4 day at the plate, allowed Clay to improve to 25-1 on the year.

Clay will host Mowrystown Whiteoak on Thursday evening at 5 p.m. in Rubyville as the Lady Panthers look to sew up a Division IV, Minford I Sectional Championship.

Minford 14, Washington Court House Miami Trace 4 (F/6)

The Minford Lady Falcons spreaded the wealth on Monday evening as 10 Minford players combined to record 22 hits, and the Lady Falcons scored eight runs alone in the second frame to roll on to a 14-4 victory over Miami Trace on Monday evening in the unit’s final regular season affair.

Ariel Kingery led Minford by going 4-for-4 with a double, a RBI, and two runs scored, while fellow senior Mary Pica went 3-for-4 with four RBI and two additional runs scored. Kingery, along with Madison Sifford and Zoe Doll, pitched two innings apiece, with each player recording at least one strikeout and allowing just two hits during their time in the circle.

Doll, along with Emily Shoemaker, Hannah Thacker, and Hannah Tolle, each collected multiple hits on the evening for the Lady Falcons, as well. Doll went 3-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored, Shoemaker went 2-for-3 with a double, two walks, a stolen base, a RBI, and three runs scored, Thacker went 3-for-3 with a RBI and a run scored, and Tolle went 2-for-2 with two RBI and a run scored as Minford successfully turned the lineup over on multiple occasions.

Sifford, along with Tamara Burchett, Melanie Fuhrmann, Brittani Wolfenbarker, and Marissa Watters, each collected at least one hit on the evening. In addition to her 1-for-2 day at the dish with a RBI and a run scored, Wolfenbarker collected a sacrifice and a stolen base to lead the quartet, while Burchett went 1-for-1 with a run scored in her only plate appearance. Sifford and Watters each went 1-for-2 at the plate, with the former adding a run scored, while Fuhrmann went 1-for-4 with a run scored to round out the Minford lineup.

Minford will host the winner of a Division III, Unioto II Sectional Semifinal between Chesapeake and Fairland in the Division III, Unioto II Sectional Finals at 5 p.m.
