Staff Report

Behind the help of a $25,000 grant from State Farm Insurance, The Scioto Foundation will announce plans to restore Spartan Municipal Stadium, according to an official press release sent out on Friday afternoon.

An official press conference will take place on Saturday, May 6 at 1:45 p.m. at the main entrance of Spartan Stadium.

During the press conference, art work, which was created thanks to the help of The Portsmouth Bicentennial Committee, will be unveiled and permanently installed inside the stadium. The panels, which feature some of the most famous and finest athletes to play in Spartan Stadium and depict the chronological history of the stadium, will be hung in the entrances and tunnels throughout the stadium.

Following this announcement, the Southern Ohio Medical Center will be using the stadium for its “Touch a Truck” kids program, which is a community-wide event.

During the press conference, it will also be explained how this money will be used and how others can help save this historic stadium by making financial donations to newly created accounts created at The Scioto Foundation.
