Portsmouth had a tough weekend as both boys and girls lost in some tough competitions. The girls basketball team lost in sectionals on Saturday against Fairland, who took the game 64-26. This ended the season for the Trojan girls. Meanwhile the boys lost 81-57 at Gallia Academy.
Scoring a massive 34 points for Gallia was Justin Peck. Peck was far too much for the Trojans, scoring more singlehandedly than the entire Portsmouth boys basketball team. Peck scored his points from 13-two point shots and six of nine free throws. Evan Wiseman also hit the court hard, scoring 20 points from two-threes, five-twos and four of seven successfull free throws.
Kendall Reynolds has been a major force for the Trojans and led his team with 15 points. Reynolds scored one big shot from behind the arc, four-twos and two of two free throws.
The Trojans are currently 13-7 and will hit tournaments Tuesday, facing Valley at 6:15 p.m. at Waverly High School. The winner will go on to face either North Adams or West Union Saturday at 8:30 p.m. at Jackson High School.
