Girls basketball tournament brackets released

It is a busy day for some girls basketball teams as they enter into the Ohio High School Athletic Association’s 2017 State/Regional Championships.

In Division III, Rock Hill will meet Northwest at 6:15 tonight at Valley. The winner of that matchup will go on to play Eastern at 1 p.m. Saturday at Valley.

Also hitting the court on the first day of tournaments, Coal Grove and Valley will compete at 8 p.m. tonight at Rock Hill. The winner will battle the Wheelersburg Pirates in the next round at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, also at Rock Hill.

In their first round of championships, Portsmouth High School will play Portsmouth West at 6:15 p.m. ronight at Rock Hill with the winner going on to play Fairland at 1 p.m. Saturday, also at Rock Hill.

Several Division IV teams will also head into tournamets tonight. Going into Northwest, Western and Eastern will meet tonight at 6:15 p.m. at Northwest. The winner will return to Northwest on Saturday to play South Webster at 1 p.m.

The Green Bobcats are hoping for a good tournament run, starting championships tonight against Southern. They will play at 8 p.m. at Meigs with the winner heading to Meigs where they will play Belpre at 2:45 p.m. Saturday.

The Clay Panthers will play their first tournament game at 8 p.m. Thursday againt Fairland. The two teams will meet at Northwest with the winner going on to face Jackson at noon Saturday, Feb. 25 at Jackson.

Entering Division IV tournaments on Saturday, Ironton and Chesapeake will play at 6:15 p.m. at Rock Hill with the winner going to Waverly at 8 p.m. on Feb. 23.

The Minford Falcons will also enter tournaments on Saturday, facing South Point at 2:45 p.m. at Rock Hill. The winner of that competition will play at Waverly at noon on Feb. 25.

Piketon and Peebles are also looking for a chance to advance to Waverly. Piketon and Peebles will meet at 2:45 p.m. Saturday at Valley. The winner will go to Waverly at 6:15 p.m. on Feb. 27.

Also looking forward to hitting Waverly on Feb. 27, Oak Hill and Zane Trace will meet at Athens at 3:45 p.m. Saturday, and the winner will head to Waverly on the 27th.
