WEST PORTSMOUTH-The Wheelersburg Pirates’ offense proved too much on Saturday as they beat the Portsmouth west Lady Senators 56-30. Even without some key players the Wheelersburg Pirates offense overpowered the Portsmouth west senators. From the beginning of the game the plan for the Pirates was to spread the floor and hit open three’s. On the defensive end they Pirates pressured Portsmouth West on every possession with tipped passes and smothering double teams.
Wheelerburg Coach Spradlin knew his team was up to the challenge even in an early makeup game.
“We got off to a decent start and then we had some little lulls which you always worry about with makeup games since we had no school Friday,” he stated.
Abbie Kallner and Makayla Akers both led the Pirates on the offensive end with 15 points each.
The Portsmouth West Coach Jason Claytor is proud of the way his team never gave up.
“Wheelersburg is a great team we played well with them well in the first quarter,” Claytor commented. “I thought we were ok we were in a position where we could compete with them. All in all in happy with the effort I think its a step in the right direction.”
Jordyn Swords led the senators with 7 points on the night.
Coach Spradlin and the Pirates looks to keep the momentum going as they host Valley on Monday.
“It’s the second time we’ve played them, at their place there were periods were we didn’t play very well so hopefully we will come out at full strength and be able to knock down some shots,” said Spradlin.
Coach Claytor and The Lady Senators look to get back on track as they travel to Waverly on Monday.
“We played them tight the first game, so we look to go up there and compete and get a win,” Claytor said.
