Shawnee State men’s basketball returns to action on Saturday afternoon when they host Mid-South Conference leaders Life University.
The Bears are 7-8 after defeating Indiana Tech on Monday afternoon, 82-78 behind 19 points from Jayllen Carter.
Life are currently mired in a four game losing streak, last falling on Tuesday to Stillman College (Ala.) 80-69.
Portsmouth native Jayllen Carter leads Shawnee State with 14.9 points per game,adding in 4.3 rebounds per game as well.
The Bears have been one of the best rebounding teams in the country so far, averaging 30.467 defensive rebounds per game, good for eighth in NAIA Division I.
The Bears are also outrebounding opponents by 9.6 per game, good for 11th in the country.
The stingy Shawnee State defense is also holding opponents to 39.9% from the field, good for 14th in NAIA Division I. That number is third best in the Mid-South
Shawnee State and Life met for the first time last season and split both matches, 1-1. Shawnee State won the home game against Life last season by a score of
83-75 on February 18th.
