CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Shawnee State women’s basketball lost their first game of the season on Sunday afternoon, falling to #18 Bethel (Tenn.) 84-80 in overtime.
The Bears trailed 40-39 at halftime, but exploded in the third quarter, outscoring Bethel 23-15 to take a 62-55 lead. Shawnee State would lead by six or seven points most of the fourth quarter, but Bethel would rally late to tie the score and send the game to overtime. Bethel would win the overtime period 9-5 to hand Shawnee State their first loss of the campaign.
Jonessa Moore would score 22 points to lead Shawnee State. Madison Ridout had 16, Bailey Cummins had 14 and Brandie Snow scored 11 to help the Bears.
Shamon Pearson had a game-high 26 points for Bethel. Alexis Hardaway added 19 and Brandi Goodman had 14.
With the loss, Shawnee State fall to 14-1 on the season. #18 Bethel improve to 6-5 with the win.
The Bears play their third game of the Mid-South Conference/Southern States Athletic Conference Challenge on Monday afternoon when they play Mobile (Ala.).
