Women’s Basketball dominates Martin Methodist in Challenge opener

The Bears continued their historic start with their 14th straight win

Campbellsville, Ky. – Shawnee State women’s basketball used big second and third quarters to blow past Martin Methodist 94-61 on Saturday afternoon in the first game at the MSC/SSAC Challenge.

After a back and forth first quarter saw the Bears lead by one, Shawnee State would kick into another gear in the second quarter, outscoring the RedHawks 25-10. Shawnee State would follow that up on the other side of halftime with a 26-13 third quarter, cruising to the win. The Bears locked down on defense, forcing 14 turnovers, grabbing 48 rebounds and getting six blocks.

The Bears shot 52.1% from the field, including 43.8% from three in the win. At the same time, they limited Martin Methodist to just 31.8% from the field.

Brandie Snow led all scorers with 19 points to lead Shawnee State. The Bears also had three players with 14 points, as Jonessa Moore, Shania Massie and Lydia Poe all played big rolls in the win. Bailey Cummins added 11 points and eight assists.

Teairra Luckett had 14 points to lead Martin Methodist. Kyoko Wade added 12, and Brooklyn Blanchard 10.

Shawnee State continue their best start since 2008-09 by improving to 14-0 on the season. Martin Methodist fall to 7-3.

The Bears will continue the MSC/SSAC Challenge on Sunday afternoon when they play #18 Bethel College (Tenn.). Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00pm.
