The Eastern Eagles pressured the Valley Indians out of a 69-52 win in a non-conference game Tuesday night at Valley High School.
Eastern Head Coach Tom Barrick knew the matchup was going to be intense.
“We anticipated a hard fought game,” Barrick stated.
He added that if the game was kept to half court, Valley could have gotten the advantage. To prevent that, the Eagles brought a fast paced game that was all over the floor.
The Eagles were led by Ethan Liest with 23 points.
“He’s a senior four-year starter,” Barrick stated. “He’s very capable of coming out and playing that well.”
Following Leist were Evan Leist with 14 points and Clay Martin with 13.
With several shooters scoring in the double digits on the opposition, Valley knew it would be a difficult game.
“We were expecting a tough battle,” Valley Head Coach A.J. Phillips stated. “We knew they were going to try to pressure us and speed us up. We let their pressure dictate the temp of the game.
Leading scorer for the Valley Indians was Christian Breech with 10 points in the night.
“He played hard for us tonight,” Phillips commented.
The coach added that Breech did struggle with a little bit of foul trouble.
Valley will go on to return to the conference against the West Senators on Friday. Phillips says he is expecting another very physical game.
“We need to box out. We need to limit their offense. We need to find someone and put a body on them,” Phillips stated.
Eastern will go on to play rival Symmes Valley on the road Friday. Barrick explained that last year when the two met, the game went into overtime.
“It’s a tough place to play. They’re athletic. We anticipate a tough game,” he stated.
