PORTSMOUTH, Ohio – Shawnee State men’s basketball got back in the win column on Saturday afternoon, downing Point Park (Pa.) 96-75.
The Bears would trail 4-2 early, but would quickly take the lead and never trail. Shawnee State would hold off Point Park for most of the first half, leading by five or six points most of the way until leading 41-35 at halftime. The Bears would build their lead up to 11 early in the second half, and an 11-0 run starting with 6:42 remaining would put the Pioneers away.
Frederick Moore (JR/Cincinnati, Ohio) had a big game for Shawnee State, scoring 16 points and grabbing 11 rebounds to record a double-double. Jayllen Carter (JR/Portsmouth, Ohio) would also have a double-double, scoring 11 points and grabbing 12 boards. Corey Benton (FR/Columbus, Ohio) had 15 points, Selby Hind-Wills (FR/Crawley, England) 13, Tamal Watkins (FR/Columbus, Ohio) 12, and J Murrell 10 to all contribute to the win.
Point Park were led by Kenny Strong who had a game-high 22 points. Asim Pleas added 19 points for the Pioneers.
With the win, Shawnee State returns to .500 with a 6-6 record. Point Park fall to 4-6 on the year.
Shawnee State are back in action on Saturday, December 17th when they host Mount Vernon Nazarene University (Ohio). Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
