The South Webster Jeeps won their district final soccer match over Lynchburg-Clay 4-0 Saturday.
South Webster (18-0-1) was led by Alex Blevins who scored two goals. Shane Zimmerman scored a goal and an assist.
Blevins jump started the Jeeps by scoring his first goal just 19 seconds into the contest. Approximately 10 minutes later, Matthew Shonkwiler threw the ball in and Blake Fulk made no mistake, beating the goal keeper to give South Webster a 2-0 lead.
After a foul, Shane Zimmerman took the free kick and drilled the right side of the net for the goal, which was followed by another Blevins goal after Zimmerman returned a pass to Blevins on a give and go to beat the goal keeper.
“We came out pressuring them from the start and Alek was able be strong and play through a collision to put us on the board early,” Jeeps coach Corey Claxon said. “That set the tone of the first half in my opinion. We kept the pressure on them and senior midfielder Blake Fulk got on the end of Senior Matthew Shonkwiler’s throw for goal number two. Matthew has really added opportunities for us this season with his throws. It’s great when defenders can add to the offense. Shane (Zimmerman) has been taking free kicks since his freshman year and it’s no surprise he put a great shot on goal. This one was a beauty into the upper right side. Alek is such a strong player and he is so tough to defend.”
South Webster moves on to the regional finals Wednesday to face Bishop Rosecrans at Athens High School.
