The Waverly Tigers are hosting the Portsmouth West Senators this Friday night at Waverly high school. This weeks conference match up includes two teams determined to get a win in the closing weeks of the season. West Portsmouth Senators have had an up and down season with an overall record of 3-4, while the Waverly Tigers took their first loss of the season last week putting them with an overall record of 6-1.
West Portsmouth high school football head coach Ben Johnson said “We’ve worked really hard this week on being defensively sound against the pass and the run, they are a very efficient team. On offense, they are outstanding. We’ve worked really hard on being more disciplined on defense so they don’t have any big plays.”
Starting for the Senators at quarterback for just the second week is junior L.T. Maynard.
“The quarterback is the key position for us. Maynard will be faced with a bigger role this week against the Tigers.” Johnson added.
The Senators are coming off of their biggest win of the year over Valley high school last week, 41-7. While, the Tigers look to bounce back after their loss last week.
“Waverly is a very dominant team and over the first 6 weeks, they were blowing out teams. Ourselves have hung around with some really good teams and have had some good games. We anticipate it to be a good game.” Johnson said.
Look for a tough dispute between two conference hungry opponents who are making a final push before the season comes to an end. The game will be played on October 14th, at Waverly high school, kickoff starting at 7 pm.
