East improves to 7-0

BEAVER — The East Tartans managed to maintain their perfect record against the Eastern Eagles. Behind veteran leadership and a balanced attack, they held off an impressive Eastern offense.

This game saw plenty of opportunities missed for both sides. Each team managed to get receivers past the opposing defensive backs and deep down the field on more than one play. Although both sides had some huge gains, each one left points on the board for sure.

The Eastern offense struck first, as Thomas scored on a short 2-yard rushing touchdown. This score came after almost 10 minutes of play, a surprisingly slow start for the Tartans and a huge grab for momentum for the Eagles. Eastern had some completions for starting quarterback Clay Martin, but their offense was mainly fueled by his rushing, along with running back Noah Gray. The two combined for 152 rushing yards on the night, with Martin holding one of the Eastern touchdowns. Gray snagged his own 36-yard completion from Martin to add to his stats of the night.

East answered before too long. Just over two minutes after the Eagles put themselves on the board, East answered with a huge 35-yard completion from Drew Lowe to Kanyan Bruton to set up a 3 yard touchdown rush by Zan Frye-Scott. In the second quarter, Lowe completed a 36-yard bomb to Deshaun Martin for his only passing scoe of the night. After Clay Martin came out of the second half and scored a rushing touchdown for the Eagles and they recovered an onside kick, East was able to get a stop and put the ball back into the hand of their offense. A Drew Lowe rushing score and an Akia Brown 47 yard bomb finished off the scoring for the night in the 3rd quarter. Both offenses were held in check by some sound defensive play in the 4th quarter.

Our best wishes go out to the East Tartans football family and #57 Devin Stevens, as he was carted off the field in an ambulance with just under a minute to play in the 3rd quarter. He was one of the leading tacklers for the Tartans with 9, and even blocked a punt to set his offense up in the redzone.
