The South Webster Jeeps remain unbeaten in the 2016 soccer season after they defeated the Wheelersburg Pirates in a non-conference matchup held Saturday afternoon at Ed Miller Stadium in Wheelersburg, Ohio.
South Webster defeated Wheelersburg 4-0 in the match, scoring all four goals in the first half.
“We have really tuned into what works for us and played a very strong first half,” South Webster soccer coach, Corey Claxon said. “Shiloah (Blevins) had a nice header goal off a corner and Alek (Blevins) was able to get in behind the defense from some great passes from (Shane) Zimmerman and (Matthew) Shonkwiler.”
The Jeeps scored all four goals in the first half, which began when Shiloah Blevins put the ball in the goal for South Webster during the third minute of the match. He Was followed by three Alek Blevins goals, good for a hat-trick, scoring at the nine minute, 18 minute and 32 minute mark of the half.
Claxon admitted to being worried about his squad playing on turf.
“I always worry about playing on the turf, but these guys did a nice job of controlling the ball and passing it on the ground,” Claxon said. “Our defense remained strong and pressured their forwards well. Dom is doing a great job of marking and Drew is always there to cover for us when we need him. Trevor had a couple good saves and gets another shutout. Overall, we had a good day of soccer.”
With the win, the Jeeps improve to 11-0-1 overall.
South Webster will play again Tuesday evening at Valley High School, when they face the Valley Indians. Start time is set for 8 p.m.
The Pirates will hit the road Tuesday evening, when they travel to South Point, Ohio to take on the South Point Pointers in a non-conference encounter. Match time is set for 7:30 p.m.
