SCIOTOVILLE- Friday night in Sciotoville brings us a matchup of the undefeated East Tartans and the winless Northwest Mohawks. The Tartans are coming off a victory over Valley High School, their first time doing so since 1994. Their self-proclaimed goal to make it through this 2016 season without a blemish provides some added interest for this meeting. When asked about the pressures that come with that goal, East head coach James Gifford had this to say.
“We’re led by some good juniors and seniors that are handling it well. We just concentrate on doing our job and worry about our team. The guys have done a good job focusing one game at a time and maintaining the same intensity level each week.”
Maintaining intensity will be key to what could prove to be a trap game for the Tartans.
The keys for East according to Gifford to come out of this week and maintain their perfect record are to “Focus on bettering themselves. [We need to] focus on reducing penalties. That’s something we have done to ourselves. Anyone can win on a Friday, and those have to be reduced.”
Northwest looks to grab their first win of this season. It is a tall task for the Mohawks. This season has hit the midpoint and they have matched up with arguably their toughest opponent to date. They look to come out of the weekend with what could be the biggest upset so far of the Ohio Valley season.
