I don’t know but have I ever told you what Buzzards and Bumblebees have in common? First let us examine the life of a Buzzard. Did you know that if you put a buzzard in a pen that is 6 feet by 8 feet and is entirely open at the top, the bird, in spite of its ability to fly, will not be able to escape? I know you are shaking your head and asking, “How can that be”? Scientists have proven that a buzzard always begins a flight from the ground with a run of 10 to 12 feet. Without enough space to run it will not even attempt to fly and it will remain a prisoner for life in a small “jail” without a roof.
The same can be said about a bumblebee. If a bumblebee is dropped into an open tumbler it will remain there until it dies, unless it is removed by someone. In fact it never sees its means of escape even though the way of escape is unhindered! It will always seek escape through the sides of the tumbler almost always near the bottom. It is amazing yet it will seek a way where none exists, until it completely destroys itself.
Why did I give you the two illustrations of the buzzard and the bumblebee? I gave it to you to illustrate that they failed because they neglected to look up. They didn’t seek help from above and continued to do the same thing over and over again which always ended in the same way; it ended in their death. The second reason I brought both those illustrations to you was to show you that their situation is not so different from the many self imposed situations that we get ourselves into. Many people are trapped in “hopeless situations”; not because there is no way out but because they are not looking for the true way out. They are depending on self instead of depending on the One who can truly change their life dynamics! There have been times where I have been there myself. I have tried to solve the issue at hand within the realm of my own intelligence and ability and have utterly failed and yet I have done the same thing numerous times. Many have asked me, “So what is the problem in that?” The go it alone mentality may stroke my ego, but it will never solve my problem.
I see people, even in the church, making the same mistakes over and over again. So what is the real problem? The real problem is that many fail to realize that what isn’t resolved is destined to be repeated. The old axiom is absolutely true, “If we keep doing what we’ve always done, we will keep getting what we’ve always got, and we’ll keep feeling what we’ve always felt.”
Remember the key to finding the way out of any predicament is always to look down and examine God’s Word and then look up for redemption! That is exactly what God wants His children to do. So, if you are having trouble, trials, and tribulation in your life it is time to look up, because in spite of the propaganda that saturates our secular world God is still the answer!!!
