SOUTH SHORE, Ky. — With a focus on women, youth, and children, the South Shore United (SSUMW) Methodist Women to hold their Vendors & Craft Show on Friday, Nov. 6, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 7, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jean Ann Lemon, a member of SSUMW, said the funds raised are allocated towards a worthy cause — local and global missions.
“This is a Vendor and Craft Show, like a bazaar, and the money that we raise from it goes to missions, both locally and globally,” Lemon said. “We have done this for four years now, and it is an extremely important event. Unless you are a woman, and involved in missions, sometimes people may not realize the importance of missions.”
The two-day event will consist of 18 vendors. South Shore trivets and First United Methodist Church trivets will be available. Vendor and Craft Show attendees can expect to find handcrafted jewelry, soaps, lotions, quilted and knitted items, wreaths, baked goods, wood crafts as well as vendors from Thirty-One, Scentsy, Keep Collection Jewelry, Origami Owl, Misty Lacy’s Wreaths & Candies, Jamberry Nails, Advocare, Tastefully Simple, and Old Crow Crafts.
Lemon said when women are empowered, the overall well-being of family is benefited.
“If you improve the status of a woman and her children the whole family is helped,” she said. “Of course it all depends upon the woman, or the wife or whoever the female figure of the family is.”
The proceeds raised from the event will go towards local and global missions efforts, such Third World countries by providing water-filtration systems for clean water and women’s reusable sanitary napkins products.
“Last year we made $1,000 and we spent $300 on a water filtration system that was concrete and sand and it would provide water for 10 to 12 people, and I believe that was in Uganda,” she said. “We did another one where we bought buckets, special buckets that would be easier for them to carry, and they had an infiltration system in the buckets. So, it was sort of a one-family bucket.”
Other products provided to women abroad made possible through the fundraising efforts of SSUMW, are women’s personal items.
“We also did reusable feminine products for women and young girls. So, we made those, and we also provided $300 to an organization out in Utah to buy the additional things because it was cheaper for them to buy it in bulk than it was for us,” she said. “We used up every bit of our money on our missions projects.”
On a local level, SSUMW has supported the Kentucky Home for Children, and the children’s needs at McKell Elementary School in South Shore, Ky.
The event will also include a Bake Sale for both days. Meals for take-out or eat-in will also be available. Large meals for $5 or small meals for $3 of chicken and noodles or a barbecue sandwich with a side dish, dessert, and drink will also be available for purchase.
