I suspect it would be an understatement to say that social media has been saturated with posts regarding the upcoming Presidential Election. Who will be the next President of the United States of America? Will it be Hilary Clinton? Will it be Donald Trump? I have read Facebook posts where people are battling against one another with vicious words, as they seek to justify why their candidate of choice should be declared the winner and sit in the coveted seat of the Oval Office. I have watched as even Christians have stooped to aggressive tactics, engaging in heated debates over Clinton versus Trump. While who runs the United States of America is a vital issue, I think that many are forgetting what is most important — no matter who becomes the next President of the United States, God is King. Yes, God is ruler of heaven and earth, has always been, and forever will be. The 24th division of the Old Testament Book of Psalms states in verse one, “The earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle.” Henceforth, at the end of every day, year, month, and even century, God is King. Now, am I suggesting that we take a passive approach, and not care about the Presidential election, as well as the other elections? Of course not, that would be absurd. However, the point that I want to convey, especially to Christians is, don’t allow yourself to become so consumed with thoughts and conversations regarding the election, that you find yourself taking on an ungodly attitude and mindset, or even saying things that later you will regret because your words did not bring any honor or glory to God. In fact, I would like to encourage you to pray about your decision before you vote, if perhaps you have not voted already, and to pray before you engage in conversations about all elections, especially if you know that anger is something that you struggle with.
Verses 2-10 of that same passage of scripture aforementioned says, “For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods.Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? or who shall stand in his holy place? He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully. He shall receive the blessing from the Lord, and righteousness from the God of his salvation. This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, O Jacob. Selah. Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle. Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, he is the King of glory. Selah.” So be encouraged, God is in control. We may cast our votes, but God allows the candidates to take office. In the prophetic book of the Bible, the Book of Revelation, tells us how the story ends, and you will not see the names Clinton or Trump. God, the King of Glory, the ruler of heaven and earth will one day come back, and his kingship is unstoppable, whether you believe it or not. So I implore you, the King of glory is coming, he will bring true “law and order,” and is coming back for a people that have prepared themselves. Are you ready for his arrival? Remember my friends, no matter who becomes President, God is King!
